Do I need to take ballet before I take a contemporary dance class?
I am 17 going on 18 and just started a dance technique class and I love it.It has shown me that I have a passion for dance. I really want to be a pro dancer but I'm a late starter.I learn fast and I have strong, straight legs (so my teacher tells me) probably from cheerleading, lacrosse, and this dance technique class.I'm told that I have good form and ballet would help me with my balance, even though it's pretty good.Contemporary dance has always appealed to me the most (like so you think you can dance).I want to be like them.If I need to take ballet first how many years do I need?Is Pointe necessary if I'm trying to be a contemporary dancer? How many years of contemporary before I should consider myself a contemporary dancer and compete in competitions? Also, do the people on the show take ballroom dance classes as well?I'm really serious about this.!Please and thank you!!
