Is this a bad omen? What should i do?

My Dad and i were walking in the cemetary and i came across an animal skull. I want to know what kind of skull it is, and i just want to experiment with it. I went to grab it to take it home but my Dad said no, that's disgusting, and it'll bring bad omens. Do you really think it'd be a bad thing if i brought it home just to examine it?
